<p>세계적인 인기 온라인 게임 리그 오브 레전드의 개발 및 유통사인 라이엇 게임즈(한국 대표 이승현, http://leagueoflegends.co.kr)는 '리그 오브 레전드(League of Legends, 이하 LoL) 2014 시즌 LoL 월드 챔피언십 (이하 롤드컵)'에 출전할 대한민국 대표팀의 선발 방식을 오늘 발표했다.
이번에 발표된 기준에 따르면, 한국에서는 총 3개 팀이 롤드컵에 진출하게 된다. 2014 시즌 동안 온게임넷의 롤챔스와 나이스게임TV의 NLB 대회를 통해 '서킷포인트'를 가장 많이 획득한 상위 두 팀은 롤드컵으로 직행하며, 세번째 진출팀은 별도의 선발전을 통해 가려지게 된다. 따라서, 지난 25일 핫식스 롤챔스 서머 2014 8강전에서 진에어 스텔스를 제압하며 서킷 포인트 최소 2위를 확보한 삼성 블루는 롤드컵 직행을 확정 짓게 됐다.
지난 시즌 3 롤드컵과 달라진 부분은 서킷 포인트 1위 팀의 롤드컵 8강 직행 시드가 사라졌다는 점이다. 작년 14개팀에서 16개팀으로 참가팀 규모가 확대된 이번 롤드컵에서는 전세계 모든 팀들이 동일하게 16강 조별 예선부터 시작하게 된다.
2014 시즌 서킷 포인트 종합 순위는 오는 8월 16일 부산 해운대 해수욕장 특설무대에서 개최될 'LoL 챔피언스 서머 2014' 결승전 이후 확정되며, 동률이 발생할 경우에는 순위 결정전을 통해 최종 순위를 가리게 된다.
한국에 배당된 3장의 롤드컵 출전권 중 마지막 티켓을 거머쥘 주인공은 8월 28일부터 시작되는 선발전을 통해 결정된다. 5판 3선승제로 진행될 이 선발전은 서킷 포인트 순위 3위부터 6위의 4개 팀이 참가하며, 이전 경기의 승리 팀이 선순위 팀에 도전하는 '챌린저 토너먼트' 방식으로 진행될 예정이다.
한국대표 선발전 경기는 준플레이오프(8월 28일), 플레이오프(8월 29일), 결승전(8월 30일) 3일간 '용산 아이파크몰 e스포츠 스타디움'에서 진행되며, 전 경기 온게임넷을 통해 생중계될 예정이다. 다만 순위 결정전 진행 여부에 따라 선발전 일정에 약간의 변동이 있을 수 있다.
